Departure
28 May 2007

Every step is a departure - but not every journey has a destination. Sometimes, as in reading a novel, there is only the journey. There isn't meant to be a destination. It is simply itself.

My husband Greg and I set up www.mosselabyrinth.co.uk as a way of sharing the research material I had gathered during the process of planning, researching and writing Labyrinth. But, as teachers of creative writing, we also tried to share the process of writing a novel, with competitions, advice pages and classes.

Now I'm putting the finishing touches to Sepulchre, a new novel set in the present day and in late 19th century France - Paris and Rennes-les-Bains - within 12 months of the building of the Eiffel Tower, a time of prosperity after years of insecurity and fear.  Also, a time of growing interest in the occult.  In ghosts.

In Sepulchre, a brother and sister leave Paris, unaware that they are being hunted. They have a destination, deep in the steeply-wooded Pyrenees. They believe they will be safe there. They will not.

I hope that this website - www.sepulchre.co.uk - will show you how, as an author, my mind works. Why the Tarot? Why Debussy? Why ghosts?  Are some places evil? Is revenge ever justified?

I also hope that it will encourage you to write down your own stories, discover new authors and share your enthusiasms.

For you, the Sepulchre can be a place of safety.
