Competition
13 August 2007
Do
you know recognise the objects in this photograph? What do they make
you think of? It could win you a prize ...
When Greg and I set up the Labyrinth website, one of our intentions was to encourage visitors to write their own stories. We got sponsorship for a sequence of short story competitions inspired by aspects of my research - medieval proverbs, museum artefacts, historical anecdotes - and were astonished by the quality of the entries.
We are delighted to announce the first Sepulchre competition - again in short story format with a maximum of 1000 words.
I'll come back to that in a minute. First, though, a reminder about the second Chichester Writing Festival, which takes place at West Dean College, near Chichester in West Sussex in the south of England from 9-11 November 2007. Booking is now open at www.westdean.org.uk.
There are festival connections everywhere!
Later this year, Greg is speaking at an event in Mirepoix in southwest France - just before the Halloween publication of Sepulchre. And we were both in the beautiful bastide town a couple of weeks ago to meet Martine Rouche, a remarkable woman of extraordinary energy, who showed us round the local museum. It was here that we took this photograph of a set of 19th century hatpins.
So, to close the circle of connections, we would like you to write a short story of no more than 1000 words which includes at least one hat pin. It could include more - it may not include fewer.
The prize for the winning entry is a free resdiential ticket - room, board and entry to all events - for the whole weekend of the Chichester Writing Festival. (You will have to arrange your own transport.)
If you would like to send us a short story, click this link for details of how to enter.
In the meantime, enjoy the Sepulchre.
