Cards
22 October 2007
I have an excellent publisher - I am very lucky.
One of the things Orion has done for me - and for Sepulchre - is to commission a beautiful set of 8 Tarot cards. These cards correspond to certain characters and relationships in the novel.
In fact, one of my main characters actually paints the 8 cards - in the imaginary world - and they are later rediscovered by my contemporary heroine. (There are two intertwined time periods in Sepulchre - the present day and the fin-de-siècle.)
So the real cards - the ones commissioned by Orion - have been painted in a lovely water-colour technique, reminiscent of the novel's period.
At the Chichester Writing Festival in November, I will discuss author relationships with their publishers with our headline guests at West Dean College - Marian Keyes, Sarah Waters, Joanne Harris and Jacqueline Wilson. It is so important to fulfil an author's creative potential - even very successful ones like these.
Supporting new authors is an important part of why Greg and I set up the Chichester Writing Festival. One of the ways we try to do this is with short story competitions - our most recent winner can be read by clicking this link. (You will also find a link in the right nav.)
Last week I posted a link to another short story competition - I'll leave it here just in case anyone missed it:

Preparations for the launch of Sepulchre on 31 October are in full swing and I have a couple of press articles to write. Later in the week, though, I'll post some of the lovely Tarot artwork and you can see it for yourself!
Counting down to the Sepulchre ...
