A weekend residential course for up to 18 students, led by Greg Mosse with Tim Bouquet and Maria Rejt.
Maria is dedicated editor on Richard & Judy's How to get published and publishing director for Pan Macmillan and Picador. Her extraordinary CV as editor includes Colin Dexter, Minette Walters, Kathy Reichs, C J Sansom and Scott Turow. Her most recent discovery was Daniel Mason's début The Piano Tuner which has sold more than 250,000 copies.
Tim Bouquet is an experienced writer and journalist in the field of mystery, crime, true crime and thrillers. He has encyclopaedic knowledge of the history of crime writing and has published extensively in magazines and newspapers. He is an experienced teacher of creative writing.
The course runs from 18h30 on Friday 31 August to 15h30 on Sunday 2 September 2007, West Dean College in West Sussex.
Course description
This is a detailed, tightly focused weekend course
for writers interested in crime, true crime, mystery and thriller writing.
It includes work on technical aspects of crime writing, analysis of
current crime publishing trends and advice on participants' ideas for
their own writing, including editorial
feedback. It includes sessions on:
- The range of classic and contemporary crime writing
- Start with the crime or build up to it …
- Crimes without reason and detectives who don’t detect
- Practical ideas for setting clues; smokescreens and red herrings
- Suspense and shock tactics
… plus opportunities to ask questions about individual professional development.
